In space applications, coatings can be exposed to extreme environmental conditions where long-term stability matters.
Recent independent laboratory testing (Dallas Laboratories, Inc.) of Cerakote's® S-140 High Temp White demonstrated exceptional color stability after 1,000 hours of accelerated Xenon-Arc weathering exposure per ASTM G155.
Two test specimens were evaluated at 250-hour intervals, with final color changes of just:
These results demonstrate remarkably little color change throughout the test period. The laboratory also evaluated color in accordance with ASTM D2244 using the CIE Lab* scale.
Xenon-Arc testing uses a controlled, high-intensity light source designed to simulate the spectral characteristics of sunlight and accelerate the effects of light exposure on materials. It is commonly used to evaluate how well coatings resist fading, discoloration, and yellowing over time. For a high-temperature white coating, maintaining a clean, stable white appearance is especially important. For materials being considered for demanding aerospace and space-related applications, that kind of color-stability data provides another important measure of how a coating responds to prolonged environmental exposure.
For spacecraft, launch systems, propulsion-adjacent hardware, and other high-temperature aerospace components, maintaining coating appearance and performance through demanding environmental exposure can be an important part of material selection.
S-140 High Temp White combines Cerakote’s high-temperature coating technology with demonstrated color stability, opening new possibilities for applications where conventional white coatings may be challenged.
As we continue expanding Cerakote technology into specialized aerospace and space applications, independent performance testing remains an important part of demonstrating what these coatings can deliver.
